New "Find My Local Library" Interactive Map Tool from the State Library
September 28, 2023A new tool is now available on the State Library website to help Iowans and visitors locate and connect with their local public library. The “Find My Local Library” tool displays an interactive and informational map of all the public libraries in the state.

State Library Awarded $246,000 Grant to Further Support Social Work Efforts in Iowa Libraries
August 08, 2023The State Library has been awarded a grant of more than $246,000 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services as part of the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program. The grant will be used on efforts to support the psychosocial needs of Iowa library staff and patrons.

State Library Joins Dept. of Administrative Services as of July 1
July 03, 2023As of July 1, the State Library is now officially part of the Department of Administrative Services (DAS). The agency is joined by a portion of the State Historical Society of Iowa to become an enterprise under DAS.

The Great IA Shares Bag Count Results Are In!
June 06, 2023On May 25, the State Library invited public libraries to participate in the first Great IA Shares Bag Count to inventory the number of filled and empty IA Shares bags in libraries to help estimate how many bags have been decommissioned due to damage or normal wear and tear.

Bridges Celebrates More Than 2.4 Million Checkouts in 2022
January 13, 2023Bridges, the ebook and audiobook consortium managed by the State Library for Iowa libraries, celebrated more than 2.4 million checkouts by Iowans in 2022. Bridges was one of 129 OverDrive library systems to surpass the 1 million checkout milestone worldwide, and OverDrive reported its highest year ever for digital checkouts.
